This week, to further support Veteran's Day, we listened to our national anthem and discussed the words and it's meaning. We talked about why we hear it before sporting events and how we show respect by standing up, with perhaps a hand over your heart, removing hats, and either singing the lyrics or remaining silent. At time marker 2:20 on this video, you can hear a rendition by a former student, Lucia Funaro: To get our student's thinking about the upcoming Veteran's Day, we listened to a medley of military songs and marched around the room, stepping to the beat. We talked about how our movement resembles what the marching bands will be doing in the upcoming (least attended) parade in NYC. The parade will occur on Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), rain or shine. It starts at approximately 11:25 AM and concludes around 3:30pm. The parade goes up Fifth Avenue, from 26th to 52nd Street. The route is 1.3 miles (approx. 35 minutes on foot). |
